Big Spring United Methodist Church was so named for the lively spring of water on the property that was used to quench the thirst of the people who gathered for revivals as well as to satisfy the thirst of the animals used to transport them there. Religious services have been documented as held at The Spring beginning in 1834.
Big Spring United Methodist Church transitioned from a gathering place for revivals to an organized congregation in 1866. Beginning shortly after the end of the Civil War, the Church saw many years where people continued to gather for inspiration, meditation, and continual revival.
This rich heritage has passed along from generation to generation and exists to this modern day through traditional worship, communal prayer, and a Church that is more than just a place to gather--it is a Church that truly knows the value of worship and relates to each member as family.
